Protect Your Valuables
Whether you received something nice for the holidays or you own a few collectibles, you need to make sure these items are covered properly. Your standard homeowner's policy typically does not cover the full amount of lost or stolen items. So what should you do to make sure you are insuring your valuables properly?
Here are 4 steps to insure your valuables:
1) Take inventory of your possessions by writing them down, creating a quick a video, or capturing pictures of your items.
2) Note the value of the items or get an appraisal from a qualified professional.
3) Give your insurance agent your review of your personal possessions and continue to update them with anything new you may inherit or purchase.
4) Talk to your insurance agent and add a scheduled personal property endorsement. This provides broader coverage for your possessions.
We can't stress to you enough how important it is to add this type of endorsement onto your policy and to continually update your agent on any new items. The more you communicate, or in this case, over communicate with your agent, the better!
